Talent Trade Tidbit - When the Exception Becomes The Rule
Not quite gelling with a particular rule at work? Well, that rule could become an exception....before becoming a rule again later. Make sense? Don't worry, we'll explain.
Transcript
Hi, I'm Stephanie Maas.
Speaker:Today I wanna talk to you about when the exception becomes the rule.
Speaker:My favorite example of this is the remote working employees have been very clear on what they want.
Speaker:One of the things that I hear often from my clients right now is that in the beginning, before the pandemic working remote, working from home.
Speaker:Was an exception.
Speaker:It was never the rule.
Speaker:The pandemic forced us to make it the rule.
Speaker:I mean, we had federal guidelines saying, Hey, you can't make people come in.
Speaker:You shouldn't.
Speaker:It's not safe.
Speaker:It became the rule.
Speaker:Now we have to go back and decide, is this the exception or is it the rule?
Speaker:People want to be able to do what makes the most sense for them.
Speaker:In fact, employees productivity skyrocketed.
Speaker:It was incredible and whatever that looks like for you and your company, it might be the rule now, but I do know what might become the rule today in three months, six months, a year from now might change and become the exception, and then it becomes the rule again, whatever you decide, go into it with a mentality of flexibility and grace.
Speaker:We'll figure it out somehow.
