Speaker:

Hi, I'm Stephanie Maas with Thinking Ahead Search Firm.

Speaker:

Today I want to talk to you a little bit about what to do now that you've gotten your bonus.

Speaker:

If you find yourself in that camp where you worked hard last year, had a great year, and got a good bonus, man, you need to celebrate and be happy.

Speaker:

Happy is hard to find, and if you got it, it's worth celebrating.

Speaker:

Second camp I find people in is their bonus was okay, not quite what they thought it would be, and they're a little disappointed.

Speaker:

Most of the time, these are the folks that start to decide, what should I do?

Speaker:

Should I stay or should I go?

Speaker:

That's where I encourage you to really take the time and make a principle based decision.

Speaker:

Sit down, spend a few minutes, write out what's really important to you right now, professionally and personally, and make sure that aligns with your current situation.

Speaker:

Making a move takes a tremendous amount of energy, and you want to make sure you're going into it for the right reasons.

Speaker:

If you find that, hey, I was disappointed, but it really makes sense to stay for now, I would encourage you to have a conversation with your manager to talk about, hey, I was a little disappointed.

Speaker:

What can we do to make sure this time next year I'm not in the same situation?

Speaker:

Finally, if you're in that last camp where this is it, I've had it, this was the straw that broke the camel's back, hang on before you rush out and go call two or three recruiters and please do call me at some point.

Speaker:

But before you rush out, I encourage you to again, sit down.

Speaker:

Making a move is very difficult and you want to make sure that you approach it in a very logical and methodical way.

Speaker:

You don't want emotion to be a big part of your next decision.

Speaker:

So sit down.

Speaker:

Spend the time to figure out what's really important to you.

Speaker:

Do you need to cut your commute time because you're not spending the time with your family and that's really impacting you?

Speaker:

Is it the money?

Speaker:

Hey, I feel really underpaid compared to the value that I'm bringing to my current organization.

Speaker:

Whatever it is for you, you want to know what it is before you start your search.

Speaker:

THEN call me.
