Speaker:

Hi, this is Stephanie Maas, partner with Thinking Ahead Search Firm, where we connect the right people with the right opportunity at the right time.

Speaker:

Today I want to talk to you about a very painful conversation that I have when it starts something Dot, dot, dot, coulda, woulda, shoulda, inevitably every so often I'll get a call where someone will reach out to me saying, I coulda, woulda, shoulda.

Speaker:

You called me several months ago about something, I blew it off and now I'm sitting here wishing that I hadn't.

Speaker:

Now, when I get those calls, I fundamentally do believe that everything happens exactly the way it should.

Speaker:

And if that really had been the right opportunity for that person, it would have worked out.

Speaker:

But it's difficult because oftentimes what they're saying is something in my situation changed.

Speaker:

I should have at least listened.

Speaker:

I should have at least heard you out.

Speaker:

I should have maybe taken that opportunity to really think through what was important to me.

Speaker:

But most of us get so caught up in the urgent and the today, what needs to be done today, that we don't slow down long enough to take those calls.

Speaker:

I'm not sharing this to say, hey, every single time you hear from me, it's urgent and you need to slow down and we need to have a total career evaluation.

Speaker:

I'm not saying that.

Speaker:

But what I am suggesting is at least once or twice a year, regardless of where you're at in your happiness factor with your current situation, it may make sense to take a call or two.

Speaker:

Again, it doesn't mean you should start looking because candidly, if you're happy, you really shouldn't.

Speaker:

But what it might mean is you should slow down five to seven minutes, become educated.

Speaker:

What is happening in the marketplace?

Speaker:

Take five minutes to reflect.

Speaker:

Are you on the path that you thought you should be, or you could be, or whatever the case may be.

Speaker:

For most of us, when we slow down for five minutes and reflect, we are right on track.

Speaker:

Yep.

Speaker:

We're good.

Speaker:

This is exactly where it should be.

Speaker:

For those of us that find that we're not, it doesn't mean we need to do anything that day.

Speaker:

Right.

Speaker:

Yep.

Speaker:

Yep.

Speaker:

It's just a reminder that, hey, somehow we've gotten a little off course and we probably need to put in some efforts despite the chaos of that day to day and make sure that we really do get back on track.
